Twenty years ago, Christy and I were neighbors the kind that just said, "Hi or Hello". Her daughter and my granddaughter went to Westwood school together, that is how we ended up really meeting.
At first, we were just neighbors. That day changed when I asked Christy if Avery could come to a birthday party I was giving for my granddaughter. She asked me if I was up to it because young girls can be quite a handful. About thirty minutes into the party, there was a knock at the door and when I went to answer the door, there stood the answer to my prayer. It was Christy, she saved the party that day. Christy knew I had, had cancer and knew I needed help. She came in and took charge of all those girls, from hot dogs to the last piece of cake.
She kept coming over to me to see if I was doing okay. She'd look at me and said, "Girls can be such a handful, I knew you would need help". I couldn't thank her enough for doing what she did that day.
We became more than just neighbors that day; we became great friends after that. She was such a blessing and a great and wonderful friend to all who came into contact with her. She would give you the shirt off of her back. Later on, I found out that she too had gone through cancer. Cancer is a very hard battle to fight. My heart goes out to Preston and Avery for the loss of such a great, wonderful and caring wife and mother. You left your mark in this world for all of the lives you have touched.
