Dr. MacDonald, Mac was a great influence in my life. Mac was tough, fair and generous. Mac was a person I turned to often for sound fatherly advice. I was at a career crossroad years ago and Mac in his way to help me asked me one most important question, "What is your number one priority?" He explained to me that I could not make a decision without knowing the answer to that question. I have used this question to make major decisions throughout my life. Mac was always truly sincere and fully engaged when someone was in need. I will always remember Mac, my professor, my mentor and my friend.

Dear Aunt Winnie, Bruce, Linda, Sharon, Neil, and Debi. I am sorry for your loss. I have so many fond childhood memories of Uncle Harold cooking over the grill at Lake Ontario. He awlays made us laugh - at least when we were behaving!!! And I remember him always bringing the Razorback hats, cups, etc with him every year! I only wish we lived closer so that we could have seen everyone more often and more recently. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love Laurie

I had a remote sensing class that Dr. MacDonald taught when I was in the geology program at the U. of A. That class was always one of my favorites - I liked the subject matter, but it is the teacher that really makes a class what it is. I'm not in a geo-related field today, but I still remember that class fondly as I'm driving down the road looking at the hillsides. My best wishes go to Dr. Mac's family - he was a really good guy.

I was very fortunate to have worked under Dr. MacDonald during my college career. Before I started college, I worked at the Arkansas Highway Department as an aerial photographer. When we printed the photos, we would have duplicates that would be thrown away. I was informed that a Dr. MacDonald at the U of A wanted photos for his classes and other research, so I started a "MacDonald Box" which I would fill up and ship to Dr. MacDonald. When I transferred to Fayetteville from Little Rock, I visited Dr. MacDonald and told him I was the one sending photos to him from the AHD. He gave me a job working in his remote sensing lab. He also arranged for NASA to support my Masters Thesis, as he did with many other students. Dr. MacDonald gave me advice throughout my college career that I still use today. He will be missed by everyone he touched. My thoughts are with his family and friends. I am sorry for your loss.

Dr. MacDonald was my teacher, my thesis adviser, and eventually my boss. We made several work trips to Nevada and D.C. The lessons I learned from listening to and observing Dr. MacDonald are too numerous to mention. My career habits as a geoscientist and teacher are modeled largely on his example of professionalism, integrity, and humor. Dr. MacDonald influenced countless others and we are all experiencing great loss. I extend sincerest condolences to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He is missed but never forgotten.
