Lyna Lee Montgomery, age 93, of Fayetteville passed away Saturday October 27, 2018 in Fayetteville. She was born October 18, 1925 in Granby, Missouri the daughter of Walter and Grace Davidson Montgomery. She was preceded by her pa Read Obituary
Dr Montgomery was kind and brilliant. She held my hand and guided me through those first years of my time in the English Department. She told me that graduate school was a long haul but that those years would be my best years, She honored me as a student who was often walking on a razor-sharp edge. She let go of my hand and gave me a nudge when it was time to leave. I’m very grateful for her humanity and for her teachings. Ryder Finnegan, PhD
My partner Pat Grant and I were forever grateful to Lyna Lee Montgomery for introducing us to so many of the Irish writers we came to treasure. She was a careful reader and a gifted teacher. What great good fortune it was that I had the chance to sit in her classroom.
Lyna Lee was someone that I was so proud to have known. She owned a beautiful soul and was a gift to all who knew her.
Lyna was a wonderful teacher. She taught several of my classes and was wonderful to listen to as she spoke of literature. I'll never forget her saying about literature, "It says something about the human condition."
