March 28, 1928 - June 9, 2021
On June 9th, 2021, Anne Moller moved on with her life, setting in motion a celestial celebration seen around the world the next morning in the form of the annular eclipse. The loss of light was felt deeply in both events. Anne, who presented herself to this world on March 20th, 1928, in Sacramento, CA as Anne Stoll, led a life guided by creativity, curiosity, caring, and an abiding love for (and frustration with) humankind. These qualities led her to earn a BA in economics from Berkeley; raise three children; survive two husbands including the love of her life, George Moller; inspire countless students as an adored educator; earn an MA in English from Iowa State University; search deeply for spiritual, religious, and philosophical meaning; serve her community in countless volunteer activities; create multiple gardens which fed her family and friends while tickling the eye and soul; involve herself in numerous political activities; defend and sustain the world of nature; support and encourage the arts and artists; design several uniquely welcoming homes; befriend countless strangers; wander the world; and encourage three generations of her progeny in their own unique adventures. With her imagination in overdrive, Anne wove grand stories of lace with patterns arranged carefully to obscure unimportant or uninteresting details, never allowing too many facts to dilute her own clear view of how events may have occurred. She possessed a multifaceted and inquisitive drive that did not allow her, or anyone within her reach, to sit idle for more than a minute or two. Anne’s indomitable sense of wonder drove her to constantly ask, “So, what’s next?” even in her final days. That question has been passed on to her children and their spouses: Ed and Cristiane Pier of Denton, TX; Elizabeth Smith of Rogers, AR; Stephen Pier and Miki Orihara of NYC, NY; five grandchildren: Alison Cuasay, Aaron Pier, Caleb Smith, Kelsey Smith Mangin and Luke Smith; and eight great grandchildren: Lexie and Elaria Mangin; Mai’ana and Nina’i Cuasay; Tyler, Matteo and Ethan San Nicholas; and Logan Gray Smith.
