Dr. Johnson taught me harp. I'll never forget and will always be grateful of how patient and encouraging he was.
I only learned of Dr. Johnson's passing today. He was the first person I came to know when I moved to Fayetteville in 1980, and the memories of the time I had as his student will stay with me as long as I live. He was a first class gentleman, and a terrific mentor. I extend my best wishes to his family; I am so sorry for your loss, and mine.
As an aspiring conductor I took a semester of private harp with Dr. Johnson. I still share that brief semester of study with my students today.
I share God's blessings of comfort with his family.

I moved to Fayetteville to attend the University of Arkansas in 1979, and played in the North Arkansas Symphony during the last couple of years of Dr. Johnson's tenure as conductor. He did a fine job of maximizing the resources and capabilities of the ensemble in preparing a varied repertoire with a good balance of discipline and humor. He seemed to take particular delight in conducting the Pops in the Park concerts.
He was interesting and engaging on any number of topics, and willing to take time to join in conversation.
I wish comfort to his family and friends.
