My deepest heart-felt condolences to the family of Dr. Roessler. Dr. Roessler was such an amazingly man. He helped so many people throughout the Vocational Rehabilitation program, especially me. I felt like he gave his students individual attention and was so positive in our lives. I remember when he told me about a job opening while I was in Graduate school and helped educate me on other resources throughout the University. We often referred to Dr. Roessler’s program as “The Harvard of Rehab.” Dr. Roessler was so compassionate and believed with the right resources and support that EVERYONE was employable.
I ran into Dr. Roessler about a month or so ago in the Walmart parking lot and asked if he needed help putting his groceries in the car. He said, “No because I want to be able to tell me wife I did this by myself.” We laughed together and shared a few memories.
I will forever be grateful for all that Dr. Roessler did in my life. When I felt like giving up in Graduate school, he encouraged me to hang in there. My life was forever changed when I met Dr. Roessler and for that I am sincerely grateful.
Rest well. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Rick was the best of the best. Great teacher, researcher, author and servant. Wonderful colleague and mentor. Good citizen and community builder. Exceptional devotion to his family. It was always a pleasure and privilege to be in his company and share many good times together. He set the example for all of us: generosity for the things that matter and a love of all the good things that life brings us. Reed Greenwood

Rick was a neighbor to our family two doors north. He and I attended the same school from 4th grade through our BA degrees from DePauw. We were all friends golfing together or shooting baskets on our driveway. His accomplishments speak for themselves, although there is one not mentioned, that our family looked forward to every year – the Christmas newsletter. Rick’s father Ralph had always done one and Rick carried on that tradition for many years after. They were always witty, cleaver and newsy bringing a holiday smile to all who read them. Those letters will be missed. I wish that Janet, Kristin, and Jennifer and their families will be able to stay strong, build on the foundation their husband and father gave them knowing that Rick lead a full and impactful life.
