A Message for MeganI was a co-worker and friend of your mom's for almost 20 years. What I would like you to know is I found myself in the same circumstances as you 39 years ago when my mother died. She had breast cancer, surgery, chemo, and radiation. Then 8 years later a recurrence which she fought but did not win. She lived in New York, I lived in Arkansas. I had just had my first child who was 4 weeks old when she died. She never got to see him. She was supposed to come and help me like all mothers do. I want you to know that if, in the coming years, you feel lost, discouraged, guilty, for not doing more, write your mom a letter and seal it in an envelope and put it in a drawer. You may cry or even sob. You will find this exercise very cathartic. Kathy was so proud of you and Eliot was the light of her life. She loved the opportunity to learn and speak French. These are the gifts you have given to her.

Mr. Lemons--I am so very sorry for your loss. You will always be remembered as one of my very favorite and best teachers. I'm an occupational therapist because you introduced the profession to me at FHS. I'm sure your wife was a very special person and teacher, too. I know you will be surrounded by those who love you and I pray that you will find comfort and healing in the tough days and years ahead.

Dear Mike and Family of Kathy,I got to know Kathy after her retirement from FHS, when she tutored my son for Spanish 3. She was such a huge help to him during this time, and I enjoyed getting to visit with Kathy in her home at the end of each of his sessions with her. She was always warm and welcoming and easy to visit with. She seemed to love helping her students and it brought her joy in doing so. She would always text me to check to see how he did on his latest Spanish exams. I visited her in rehab, and she absolutely beamed when she showed me the photos of her grandson on her iphone. She also spoke so fondly of her children and their spouses that day, and I know you all will miss her very much. My thoughts are with you during this time.Lynn Shaw

Dear Mike and family,Kathy and I were sisters of breast cancer and we ran a few Komen races together (well maybe walked!) Kathy was so positive and I was so sad when I learned of her recurrence . But she was a fighter and never ready to give up. Eliot was the light of her life and he was the light at the end of her tunnel, a goal to reach when she won the battle. I know she will continue to watch over him from a better place. I visited Kathy just before her discharge from rehab. I was so hopeful for her and now I am just so sad. All of us who were inspired by Kathy's enthusiasm for life will miss her. Her laughter, her wit, her insight, and her inspiration helped us through each day.
