Not a fondest but two years of fond memories I hold because of the five Smith family members who were our sponsors after my dad landing the assignment some might compare to Hawaii.My two sisters and I matched up perfectly with Todd,Amy,and Sharon. The two dads were busy with keeping NATO southern command safe while us kids lived the grand life as officer brats. The memories were from how the five family members took us in and while Theresa and Amy took to equestrian life Todd and I were all three sports plus golf course time so not to hold back the old men . Three under par was not acceptable. Col Smith was truly an officer and a gentleman.

It saddens me to miss Mr. Smith's memorial service today. My wife and I returned late last night from a trip overseas and I'm back at work getting acclimated to the news of Northwest Arkansas (I'm a newspaper guy). In any case, I share the sense of loss with Mr. Smith's passing. I serve as an occasional greeter at Christ Church and was honored to have the chance to share small conversations with him from time to time. What a great gentleman! I'm learning more now, though his obituary, about his amazing life of service, to the nation and to the law. My prayers are with your family as you adjust to life without him, but what a life he led, not to mention the many lives he influenced so positively. Go rest now, Mr. Smith. You live life well.

Ray is a cousin that I have always admired and looked up to; he was 13 when I was born. His beautiful smile showed his sincere love of family and friends. He always took time for our chats, no matter what. He was a giant of a man who I was always so proud to call as a part of our Smith Family! He served our family tremendously with his infinite research of our decendants and his constant oversight of our family cemetary. Rest in peace, sweet Raymond. You will be deeply missed, but you have left us in good hands to carry on. Til we meet again ... Joyce Ann.

I had the privilege of cutting Rays hair for many years. We saw each other every two weeks. He was a loyal friend. Cared about me. Such a good person. He will be missed. My condolences to the family.

Raymond was my cousin. He was 23 years older than me and my first memory as a small child that I have of him was how proud all the family was for his service to our country. I remember seeing photos of him in his military uniform and I sensed the great honor and respect that my parents and all the family members had for him and his service to our country.
