I had the privilege of working with Mr. Walt at AutoZone for many years. Although it was just “work,” our relationship was much more than that; a friendship that endured across time, age, and distance. Mr. Walt was a kind friend who checked on me, cared for me, looked out for me, and loved me. We often discussed everything from politics and his Army service to music and our families. He was so proud of his grandchildren and often talked about the vehicles he was looking at to give to them; how his granddaughter, Heaven, would tell him he had the “bluest eyes, deep blue like the ocean”, which always melted him. I could share many stories about our long conversations, how proud he was of his daughters, and his love for his wife and I still would not summarize how much he loved his family.
I will always remember how he left me Twinkies and candy in my work box and it would be a surprise every time I got my keys. He checked on my kids when they were sick, gave me Christmas candies made by Ms. Patricia and always cared about my well being.
My friend, I will forever miss you and carry your memories in my heart. You made a lasting impact on our lives; my children still believe the movie “The A-Team, Colonel John “Hannibal” Smith” was based on your Army days.
We have no words to fully comfort his family; we are deeply sorry for your loss. Mr. Walt was loved by many, including my family and I.
