David Whittington, PhD, 53, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2008, in Fayetteville. He was born in Berea, Ohio, the son of Richard Murphy and Eileen (Cooney) Whittington. He attended Fairwood ES, Berea, Read Obituary
The Lord blessed Dave with the talent of music and a great intellect and he was a blessing to us here in Miami as he used those talents to serve our Lord and community In many great ways.
His family should know that he was very valued and very well thought of down here and we miss him. We now pray for the repose of his soul and we offer up Dave and his Family up to our Lord in prayer and Thanksgiving for his life.
For many years I prayed with Dave at our Thrusday Bible Study. He was misssed when left for Arkansas and now is missed upon his return to our father. God bless Dave and his family. I know he playing his guitar for all of us.
I am saddened by the passing of our brother Dave Whittington. I pray to the Lord to bless him and his family. He was very important in my Life. In my walk with God my first steps were through singing in Choir. First in prison then in St. Hugh. When I came to Emmaus, his music and songs touched me in a way that I will never forget. Then in Manny's house I listened to his wise words. He introduced me to C. S. Lewis and was one of my teachers during my confirmation. But the one thing that stands out in my mind most about him was his charity. He gave from his heart. A heart that had suffered and was broken. But a heart that I saw was lovingly being made stronger and fuller with God's loving hands. He taught me how to pray. To this day I pray using words that I first heard from his lips and heart. There are men and women that touch our lives in a very special way; Dave touched mine. I cherish his memory. I will pray to God to thank him for Dave's company, his words, songs and the sweet music from his guitar. YBIC Angel Fernandez
I served with Dave on several Emmaus retreats as team members and music ministers. We also served together when I was a sponsor for RCIA; that's where I really got to no Dave and his love for Christ. I found him to be a brilliant and kind man who spread the love of Christ to all whom he cam in contact with. I am truly sorry for this lost, but our lost is God's gain. May Dave find rest in the glory and grace of God?s love.

David and I played music while serving at retreats and prayer services here in Miami. Always soft spoken and with such a ready heart to serve, David inspired me to continue and grow in the music ministry here in Miami. I am proud to have known him and to have been inspired by his selfless service to others.
Please accept my condolences on your loss. I met Dave through St. Thomas Aquinas. Dave was always willing to help those individuals new to the church, he would always put forth his time for others, and he was kind enough to be my sponsor to become a Catholic. Each week he would give his time as my sponsor, he would answer any questions I had about Catholicism, and he always made me comfortable through the process with his stories and extensive knowledge. Whether talking about teaching, writing, the life of a graduate student, or faith, Dave always had an interesting perspective and advice that I appreciate greatly.
Dave will be very missed at the VA. He was well known for his unique bow-ties and friendly smile. We were blessed to have known him and we send our heartfelt condolences to his family. May God bless you as you travel this road.
Dave was such a smart & witty man. He was dedicated to his work at the VA, yet never too busy to stop and chat or answer my silly questions. I will miss his story telling and unique perspective on life.His family is in my thoughts and prayers-so sorry for your loss.
