Andrew George 'Mac' McConnell's Obituary
Andrew George “Mac” McConnell, Jr, 77, of Springdale died Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the Veterans Home in Fayetteville. He was born December 22, 1930 in Topeka, Kansas to Andrew George “Pete” McConnell, Sr and Lois Ann Van Vleck.
He served in both the Navy and the Air Force, retiring after 21 years. He went on to work with the Boy Scouts of America and the National Park Service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shrine Club, and Scottish Rite Club in New Mexico. He also was a Lifetime member of the DAV and the Springdale Moose Lodge #877.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Carol Jean Pollock, whom he married in 1959.
He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Charlotte Gardner McConnell; and his daughters, Jean Marie Lydic of Aztec, New Mexico and husband Randy; Andrea Lynn Stewart of Fayetteville, Arkansas and husband Jim; grandchildren Stephen Lydic and Sherri Warner of NM and Wendy and Sarah Stewart of Fayetteville; great-grandchildren A.J. Gross, K.C., Natalie and Zain Lydic all of New Mexico. His is also survived by step-son, Jeff Gardner of Rogers and step-daughter, Nancy Hensley of CA.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Church of Northwest Arkansas in Springdale or to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, 6977 Main Street, Houston, TX 77030-3701 (attn: Carroll Foley).
Full Military Honors and memorial service will be held at the Pavilion at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 10 a.m.
