Anita Alpe's Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Bertha Anita Alpe announces her passing on July 10, 2021 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Anita was born in Waukegan, IL on September 28, 1951. She grew up in Zion, IL and lived there until leaving to attend college in her mother’s home state of Arkansas, where she married and raised her children. After living many years in Lake Village, AR, Anita moved back to Zion to pursue a job opportunity and be near family. She eventually returned to Arkansas, making her home in Fayetteville to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Anita taught computer classes at St. Mary’s School in Lake Village, worked at Abbott Laboratories’ Employee Credit Union, and retired from Arkansas Rehabilitation Services. Anita fought cancer for many years, and it is a testament to her character and strength that she never gave up and continued working throughout that time.
Anita always had a sense of curiosity and was a lifelong learner. She loved books and particularly writing and staying connected with family and friends. She found beauty and fulfillment in travel, nature, animals, sewing and family. She was a long-time friend of Lois W.
Among many things, Anita will be remembered for her joy in living, sense of humor and fun, endurance, and love of family. As described by Samantha, her niece, Anita’s spirit was as bright as the sun. She was loving and she is loved.
Anita is survived by her children Jimmy Alpe (wife Angela), Kevin Alpe (wife Andrea), Melanie Alpe, grandchildren Selby Moreau, Anne Reese Moreau, Emily Alpe, Addison Moreau, Olivia Alpe, Piper Alpe and Hayden Alpe. She is also survived by a great grandson Mason Moreau and sisters Marieta Niess, Lee Hough, brothers James Philyaw, David Philyaw and Marshall Philyaw, as well as extended family.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents Chester Philyaw and Ewilda Gladys Rodgers Philyaw, as well as other beloved family members.
Visitation will be 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Monday July 19, 2021 at Nelson Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Graveside service will be 2:00 pm Monday at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
