Anna Oakley Megginson's Obituary
Anna Oakley Megginson, age 85, of Rogers, Arkansas, passed away on July 2, 2024, immersed in the warmth of surrounding loved ones. She was born on June 17, 1939, in Marion, Alabama, to Ellwood F. Oakley and Margaret Turner. Anna was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brother, Ellwood “Ebb” Oakley.
Anna spent her childhood in Washington DC and Gadsen, Alabama before moving to Pine Hill, Alabama. She graduated from Pine Hill High and Judson College, where she majored in English and Music. Anna dedicated much of her life to music, both as a piano teacher and as an organist in her church. Her passion for music touched the lives of many students and worshippers throughout the communities in which she lived. Known as ‘Grandma Music’, her young students were greeted with open arms and sent home with a selection from the ever present candy jar.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Joel Lowery Megginson, Sr., sister Jackie Harrison (Ben), sister-in-law Lois Oakley, her two children, Robyn Megginson Aronowitz (Eric) and Joel Lowery Megginson, Jr., and a host of extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Anna was blessed with four beautiful grandchildren, Nathanael Aronowitz (Emily), Christina Aronowitz, Samuel Megginson, and Matthew Megginson. Anna excelled at grandparenting, spending years showering all four with unconditional love, one of a kind experiences, and the gift of music.
Following her wishes, cremation arrangements were conducted under the caring direction of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Rogers. A church service will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Dalton, Georgia on Saturday, November 30th at 10:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life gathering will follow in Rome, Georgia. Location and Time will be announced.
