Archie Buchanan's Obituary
Archie Buchanan, 79, passed away peacefully, March 5, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He was born on August 6, 1945, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to Manuel and Velma Buchanan.
Archie spent most of his life in Fayetteville, where he built a community of lifelong friends and treasured time with his family. He was baptized at the Historic St. James Missionary Baptist Church in his younger years and remained guided by his faith throughout his life.
Archie had a passion for travel, which he fulfilled during his 15 years as a delivery driver for Montgomery Ward. When he wasn’t working, you could find him in front of the tv watching his favorite westerns, including Gunsmoke, Big Valley, and The Rifleman. Archie also loved fishing and could often be found at Bobby Sox on the weekends, where he had his own table and as always surrounded by friends.
Archie is survived by his two children, Peria Smith of Fayetteville and Douglas Barker (Crystal) of Lincoln, Arkansas; five Grandchildren and two bonus grandchildren: Tevea Smith, Miles Kellogg Smith, Mckinsey Barker, Samantha Barker, Byron Barker, Cash, and Devyon; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Buchanan, Sr. and Velma Buchanan; his sister, Verda Watson; and his brother, Manuel Buchanan, Jr.
Archie’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He was a devoted father and grandfather, known to his children as “Dad” and his grandchildren as “Grandpa”. Among his family, he was affectionately known as “Skitch”. His warmth, humor, and love will be deeply missed.
A Memorial service to celebrate Archie’s life will be held on Saturday, March 15th, 2025, at 3:00 P.M. at Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville.
