Arlis Roland Wages, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Willard Walker Hospice in Fayetteville. He was born on June 5, 1933, in Witter, Arkansas, to Mack E. and Ivy “Pearl” Bolinger Wages. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Betty Meadows Wages; and his sister, Emily Johnson.
Arlis was a man of God. Second to his relationship with the Lord was his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was affectionately called Papa by the grandchildren and Poppy by the great-grandchildren. He loved driving trucks for a living and started his career at the age of seventeen. He married Betty at the age of nineteen when she was only fifteen years old. He was the most loving, kind and compassionate man with the biggest heart. As his two daughters grew up, he also became the greatest father-in-law.
He is survived by his two daughters, Linda Mitchell and husband Gaylon of Farmington, and Carla Brewster and husband Jim of Neosho, Missouri; his four siblings, Darrell Wages, Donnie Wages, Lonnie Wages, and June Grayson; four grandchildren, Sherry Garrison, Misty Mitchell, Sam Brewster, and J.J. Brewster; and five great-grandchildren, Abigail Roberts, Lance Garrison, Hunter Brewster, Kaylee Brewster, and Woodrow Brewster.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00am on Saturday, March 17, 2018, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00am at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home at 4520 N Crossover Rd, Fayetteville, AR 72703. Interment will follow immediately at Patrick Cemetery in Combs, Arkansas.
