Ava Elizabeth Haddock's Obituary
Ava Elizabeth Haddock, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. She was born on January 31, 1923, in Atkins, Arkansas, to Isaac J., Sr. and Burmell W. (Daniel) Hughey, however she always celebrated her birthday on January 30th. She is preceded in death by her husband, Terry Lee Haddock; her brother, Isaac Jerry Hughey, Jr.; and her aunt, Elizabeth Barnett.
Ava Elizabeth was a 1940 graduate of Atkins High School. Following graduation, she enrolled at Central College in Conway in 1942 and completed one year of college. Following college, she returned to Atkins where she married John Berkemeyer from whom she was later divorced.
She was employed by the Friendship School in Russellville, Arkansas, which provides care and teaching for children and adults with special needs. She made many friends through her work and received an award for her work with special needs children.
In 1984, she married an old friend whom she had met in Florida in her youth, Terry Lee Haddock, and they moved to Clearwater, Florida. Elizabeth and Terry later re-located to Murray, Kentucky. Terry passed away on May 12, 2001. She then re-located back to Arkansas to be near her brother and sister-in-law, Jerry & Doris Hughey, who assisted with providing care for her in the ensuing years.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Doris Hughey of Fayetteville.
A memorial service will be held at Atkins United Methodist Church on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at 11:00 a.m.
