I remember as a child, anytime I would see an Arkansas Razorback Shirt with the hog leaning against the BIG A, I thought the A was for ‘Avis’.
She bought me my first pair of white KEDS shoes and I was so proud to wear them to school the next day.
I always loved the way she smelled. Even if it always had a hint of Winston Cigarettes.
I would brush her hair and watch soap operas with her.
She would always build a fire on snow days and layer our socks with bread bags so we could play in the snow longer.
She always had ham, cheese and white bread on hand and would always wrap my sodas paper towel and foil on field trip days so my drink would stay cold. And each time she knew I had a book fair or something special at school, she would give me $5.
Every school play. Every gymnastics practice. Every piano recital. She was there.
I love that garage sales were mentioned… and bingo. My first gambling experience was when I was 10 years old and won $200 dollars off a $5 bingo card she let me play when she dragged me to bingo one time. She let me keep every dollar. I remember having 40, 5 dollar bills in my hand thinking, “how cool is this?!?”
Every time Scott had a ballgame that she could take me to, she did. I spent countless hours at the ballfields, playing while she cheered for Scott in the stands.
I have too many wonderful memories of this amazing woman to count.
All my love, Aunt Avis ❤️
