I just came across Jean's obituary and am sorry to hear of her passing. I was looking for her because she was a friend of my mother, Carolyn Greene Axt from Peoria, who passed away in 2013. My mother tremendously regarded Jean; after reading her obituary, I can see why. Wow! I recently read the journal my mother wrote after an epic 1952 month long trip to Eruope with a large group of women journalists. I believe this is how she met Jean. Jean is only mentioned a few times, but it gives a glimpse of live for young women in the '50's, the challeges traveling so far away without today's modern technology, and the difficulties facing a career- much like what was mentioned in Jean's obituary. Jean and my Mother, Bonnie Ford Young, were friends back in the 40's. After my Mothers passing, Jean and I started holiday greetings. In fact, I still use the gift (glass jars on a white wicker tray) that Jean gave to my Mom as a baby shower gift (for me) 75 years ago. My sympathy to her family, may she rest in peace.

Jean was a customer of mine in Bentonville at Arvest Bank. She would come to my office and tell the great stories of her life. She was always a joy to listen to and made a huge impression on me. I thought “how could someone that has traveled the world want to come and sit and talk to me”. She was just that way. I’m sure it’s been 30 years since I saw her or maybe even thought about her but seeing her name brought a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. Rest In Peace my friend. Diane Wells

I did not know Jean personally, but she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution - Marion-Linn Chapter, in Marion, Iowa. I do know that she had written several books, and we have them in our Chapter library. I had talked to her about a year ago, and then could no longer reach her. She will be missed. As the Registrar of the Chapter, I want the family to know that she could have a plaque put on her grave indicating that she was a member. I also know she was a very good friend of Jeanne Oxley, who has since left us. If the family would like to contact the Marion-Linn Chapter, I would be happy to hear from any of them. Another friend that is also gone was Betty Ketelsen of Marion.
