Barbara Anne Starr Roberts' Obituary
Barbara Anne Byerly Starr Roberts, a beloved pillar of the Fayetteville community, passed away on April 29, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on August 9, 1938, in Pulaski, Virginia, to Colleen Harrell Byerly and James Paul Byerly, Barbara's life was a testament to love, service, and grace.
Barbara is survived by her son, Jon Larry Starr II; her grandsons, Brandon Starr, Marshall Starr (Brynne), and Taylor Keen; along with several great-grandchildren and countless friends who were like family to her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Roberts, and her beloved daughters, Lori Starr, and Sheri Starr Keen.
Growing up, Barbara's life was one of adventure and diversity, as she traversed the southern states due to her father's work with TG&Y dime stores and the United States Army. Her exposure to different cultures, including living in Japan during the closing days of World War II, instilled in her a deep appreciation for Japanese art and culture.
After graduating from Fayetteville High School in 1956, Barbara pursued her passion for social work, earning her bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas. She dedicated many years to serving the community through her work with Fayetteville Public Schools and her active involvement with Zeta Tau Alpha.
A devout member of Central United Methodist Church, Barbara poured her heart into various ministries, from serving as a greeter, to leading Sunday school classes and visitation ministries. Her boundless compassion was evident in the Cares and Concerns Ministry, where she sent countless notes and cards offering comfort, encouragement, and celebration to those in need.
Beyond her charitable endeavors, Barbara found joy in her hobbies, from collecting antiques to frequenting the Fayetteville Public Library. Her elegant table settings and warm hospitality made gatherings with friends and family truly special, while her quick wit and sense of humor endeared her to all who knew her.
A Celebration of Barbara's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Central United Methodist Church, where friends and loved ones will gather to honor her legacy of love and service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lib Horn Fayetteville Animal Shelter, 1640 South Armstrong, Fayetteville, AR, 71701, a cause close to Barbara's heart.
Barbara's passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, but her spirit of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as a shining example of faith, compassion, and love.
