Barbara Lee Hough's Obituary
Barbara Lee Hough, age 73, of Fayetteville, AR, passed from this life peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2021. She was born February 23, 1947, in Hays, Kansas, the daughter of the late Doris James Huffman and Frances Iturbe Huffman. Barbara graduated Ellis High School in 1965, and was a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
To her family and friends, Barbara was a woman of strength beyond measure, a survivor of unanticipated heart disease and breast cancer. She was supremely selfless, always putting others before herself and caring for those around her - many family members share fond memories of her daily phone calls to check in and ensure all was well. Adored as “my rock” by her husband Dan, she was an unconditionally devoted and supportive wife, and her partnership in leading the family bestowed a legacy of Always Together. A protective and esteemed mother, Barbara’s affection and attentiveness was evident in every conversation and action with her girls, and her maternal character resonated beyond her three daughters. She was a dedicated grandmother and great-grandmother, proudly attending school programs, graduations, and celebrations, and she cherished and preserved years of kids’ crafts, souvenirs, and mementos as valued treasures.
Barbara was outgoing, spoke freely and invested herself in personal relationships. She took delight in spoiling the family dog, Bentley, celebrating Christmas, traveling, and giving gifts with or without reason. She enjoyed watching football, shopping, reading her daily devotional, and lucky days at the casino. Above all, her love was in spending time with her family. Her smile was beautiful, her laugh was contagious, and her heart overflowed with pride and adoration for those she loved. They say it’s the little things that matter most in life, and Barbara showered her family with tiny miracles every day. Her daily phone calls and her powerfully loving presence will be greatly missed until we reunite with her again.
Left to cherish the daily blessings she provided include her husband, Dan Hough, whom she married June 5, 1965, in Ellis, Kansas; three daughters, Lori Miller (Rodney), Jeanette Edge and Rachel Hough all of Fayetteville, AR; two sisters, Doris Dinkel (Patrick) of Broomfield, CO, and Connie Honas of Wichita, KS; five grandchildren, Nicole Barnett (Eric), Adam Miller (Tannah), Jacob Miller, Joshua Miller, all of Fayetteville, AR, and Logan Edge (Charlie) of West Fork, AR; and six great-grandchildren, Annabelle Barnett, Aiden Barnett, Adele Barnett, Anthony Barnett, Adalynn Barnett, and Dax Miller, all of Fayetteville, AR; and several relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at 10:00AM and a memorial service at 11:00AM on January 30, 2021 at Brock’s-Keithley North Hill Chapel in Hays, KS, followed by a graveside service at Mount Hope Cemetery in Ellis, KS. Flowers may be sent to Brock-s Keithley Funeral Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, Kansas. Local cremation arrangements are by Nelson Berna Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
