Barbara Jean Melvin's Obituary
‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –
Barbara Jean Melvin loved watching birds. Looking and listening in silence at the birds in her backyard, Barbara found hope and joy in the birds' songs and flight. By watching the birds, she added to her enthusiasm for life and rested in her knowledge that life does not stop once the words end – for she knew the song would not end. Barbara had hope.
Barbara was 91 years old when she passed away. She loved her garden and the life that sprung up from it. She loved the life that would come down from the sky and perch in the branches of her trees. Always remembering her twin sister who passed away during birth, Barbara looked to the skies to remember Beatrice June. Barbara Jean and Beatrice June are once again together.
Barbara loved to travel, enjoyed a good breakfast out with best friends, and to collect mementos to remember times away from home. She was a wonderful woman that is loved, will be missed, and will always be cherished. “Granny” as she liked to be called by her grandchildren, was an amazing wife, mother, and daughter. She has joined her sister Beatrice in the eternal and will continue to sing the tune that never ends.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Littlejohn of Massachusetts and Elizabeth Wadene Cox of Florida; two sons, Victor Ren Butler and wife Georgia of Stilwell, Oklahoma, and Robert Wesley Butler and wife Daisy of Wellston, Oklahoma; and nine grandchildren, James Littlejohn and wife Yong Cha, Carla Littlejohn-Booker, Rodney Littlejohn and wife Kari, Chad Cox, Amanda Holland and husband Jeremiah, Stephanie Barnes and husband Tim, Matthew Butler, Nan Butler and Ethan Butler. Barbara was blessed with 10 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and another soon to arrive.
