Barbara Root Smith's Obituary
Barbara Root Smith, 89, departed this life on September 4, 2014 at Circle of Life Hospice, Springdale, AR. To her precious family, she was our beloved “Mamo”. She was born November 18, 1924 in Kenton, Ohio to Paul and Lora (Spurrier) Root. Barbara attended Miami University in Ohio and graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.
Barbara was a member of Central United Methodist Church where she attended Asbury Sunday School Class and Circle I. She was a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter S, Daughters of American Revolution and Rural Builders Club. She enjoyed volunteering at Washington Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, Butterfield Trail Village in the water aerobics program and was active in the Muscular Dystrophy Support Group.
She was pre-deceased by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Philip E. Smith. She is survived by her four children Lora Oswalt and husband David, Debbie Ranalli and husband Paul, Philip (Flip) E. Smith, Jr. and wife Kathy (Rose), Barbi Godwin and husband David; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Kettle and her brother Willard Root and his wife Wege of Kenton, Ohio.
On Saturday, September 6th, a family memorial service celebrating Barbara Smith’s life was held in the Chapel at Central United Methodist Church with Dr. Jack Wilson officiating.
