Berneice Newport Hebert's Obituary
Berneice Newport Hebert, born on March 24, 1931, in Wheeler, AR, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 93 years old. She was the third of four children born to Harvey and Eula Newport. Berneice graduated as Valedictorian from Farmington High School and later Fayetteville Business School. After working for an accounting firm, she moved to Houston, TX, where she worked for Texaco in accounting. It was there that she met her future husband, Dallas Joseph Hebert (DJ), with whom she shared 49 wonderful years of marriage.
Throughout their marriage, Berneice and DJ lived in several cities in both Texas and Louisiana before purchasing land in Prairie Grove in 1970, where they made their home. Berneice embraced farm life, dedicating much of her time to managing their land. She also worked for the Fayetteville Public Library in the Talking Books department from 1983 until her retirement, which allowed her to continue nurturing her love for reading. Berneice was also a passionate Razorback fan, cheering for the University of Arkansas teams with the same enthusiasm she had for her family.
Berneice was preceded in death by her husband, DJ Hebert; her father, Harvey Newport; her mother, Eula Newport; and her brothers, Jim and Max Newport.
She is survived by her sons, Craig Hebert and Kevin Hebert (and his wife, Luann), and their families: Kelsey and Grant Fletcher, and their daughter, Eloise; Morgan and TJ Darling; and Joshua Hebert and his fiancée, Jana. She is also survived by her sister, Lula Thompson, and her family.
Visitation will be held at Moore’s Chapel Funeral Home in Fayetteville on Tuesday, December 10, starting at 10:00AM. Graveside Service will follow at Mt. Comfort Presbyterian Cemetery at 11:30AM.
