Betty Skelton's Obituary
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Betty Skelton, age 84, at her home in Easton, KS on Friday, January 28, 2022, with her loving family by her side. Betty was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother who spent her life loving her family and serving her Lord faithfully. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert & Vada Anderson and sister, Carol (Larry) Roberts. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Dwain Skelton, to whom she was devoted and spent her life encouraging him in his career and hobbies; her children, Janey (Wayne) Reno, JD (Jamie) Skelton, Johnny (Leslie) Skelton whom she taught to love the Lord and the value of a close family; her grandchildren Jeremy (Tabitha), Apryl (Nate), Heather (Ritesh), Sherry (Ryan), Katrina (Bobby), Benjamin (Lacey) and Michelle who remember her teaching them how to pray with confidence and live life with contentment in God’s love and grace; also her great-grandchildren Mitchell, Karissa, Robby, Violet, Kort, Henry, Bailey, Jack, Evie, Ivy, Sophia and Mathyus who will miss her ready smiles and hugs whenever they came to visit; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and her church family. Born February 10, 1937, in Prairie Grove, AR, Betty married Pvt. Dwain Skelton on December 26, 1954, at the age of 17 in Springdale, AR. She spent many years teaching Bible class, helping with VBS, and was one of the founding members of the Northwest Church of Christ. After Dwain’s retirement, he and Betty bought an RV and traveled the United States together with their children and grandchildren. She shared with Dwain a love for genealogy and many of their trips were filled with libraries, cemeteries, and courthouses tracing down descendants and relatives. Holiday gatherings at her home were filled with fun, plays conducted by the grandkids, laughter, and wonderful food. She opened her home to her grandkids over the summers and had “Cousin Camp” for weeks on end teaching them to sew, cook, sing, write a book report, properly set a table, and read. She took them to the library, set up the garage so they could roller-skate, taught them Chinese checkers and dominoes, how to recognize bird calls, and fostered an appreciation of all things beautiful. She loved animals, especially birds of all kinds, and spent many hours feeding and watching them from her windows along with her flowers that grew liberally in her flower beds. Funeral will be held at Davis Chapel, 531 Shawnee St, Leavenworth, KS 66048 at 3pm, Monday, February 7. The family will see visitors from 2pm to 3pm before the service. Internment at the Skelton Family Cemetery in Black Oak, AR will be held on Friday, February 11 at 11:00a.m. Donations may be made in Betty’s name to Sunny Glen Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1373, San Benito, TX 78586 https://sunnyglen.org in lieu of flowers.
