Betty Lou Smith's Obituary
Betty Lou Smith: A Life of Love and Adventure
On April 13, 1937, God the Father sent a beautiful angel, Betty Lou Smith, to Earth. On March 3, 2025, after her work was done, He called His angel home. As she had done every day for 87 years, Betty Lou gladly answered His call and took His hand as He led her home. Betty was born the daughter of Harold LeRoy Smith and Margaret Genevieve Smith in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was a sister to Shirley Marie, Norma Jean, Marjorie Ann, Jackie LeRoy, Jacqueline LaRue, and William Lee—all of whom were waiting with loving smiles and open arms to welcome her home.
On June 19, 1957, Betty married the great love of her life, John William Smith, a dashing airman born in Orlando, Florida. Together, they explored the world; Singapore, Ireland, Denmark, China, India, and Germany were just a few of the places where great adventures unfolded and amazing times were shared. They remained together in spirit and inseparable in person for over 67 years—a testament to the depth and strength of their loving union. Together, they brought three children into the family: Theresa Ann, Patricia Nadine, and Christopher Joseph, all of whom will be forever grateful for the gift of their mother’s nurturing heart and kind spirit. John and Betty were later blessed by the love and affection of six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Betty Lou will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to share in her beautiful life. Though we will never see her again in this world, she will never be far away. She will remain forever woven into the fabric of our lives. We will hear her laugh when we feel happiness and sense the touch of her love when we experience sorrow or pain. Whatever may come, a precious part of her will remain with us and within us until we, too, are called home, where we will be with her again. What a glorious day that will be.
Special Request for Remembrance
In lieu of a traditional memorial service, Betty Lou wished for all those who knew and cared for her to join in a moment of remembrance or prayer at 2:00 PM CST on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025. Wherever you are, please take a moment to honor her life, her spirit, and the memories you shared with her. She hoped this collective act of love and reflection would bring comfort and connection to everyone who held her dear. Thank you for celebrating her in this meaningful way.
