Billye Ruth Walters' Obituary
Biography
Billye Ruth Walters, age 91, passed away peacefully Friday September 14, 2012 in Fayetteville after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s and dementia. She was born April 28, 1921 in Henderson, Kentucky and raised in Evansville, Indiana where she met and married her husband Dr. Claude Walters, Sr. in 1939. In the early 1940’s they moved to Camden, Arkansas where she helped her husband build his optometric practice. After her husband’s retirement in the late 1980’s, they moved to Fayetteville.
Billye loved art and enjoyed painting and drawing. She was a member of the Daliah Garden Club in Camden opening her home for meetings and flower shows. She excelled at golf, bridge, bowling and was a wonderful cook and hostess. She was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Fayetteville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dr. Claude Walters Sr.; sister, Betty Crane; and brother, Bob Gibson.
She is survived by one son, Claude Walters Jr. and his wife Patricia of West Fork, Arkansas; two grandsons: Jon Walters and his wife Shelly of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Patrick Walters and his wife Amber of Columbia, South Carolina; two great-granddaughters: Arabella and Arianah Walters of Columbia, South Carolina; one brother-in-law and one sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
A private family burial will be held at Son’s Chapel Cemetery, Fayetteville, Arkansas under the direction of Moore’s Chapel Funeral Home.
