Dr. Boyd W. Harris' Obituary
Dr. Boyd W. Harris, 76 of Fayetteville, AR passed away Friday, October 5, 2012 in Fayetteville after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born April 27, 1936 in Stilwell, OK to Renfro Harris and Ruby Ruth Evelyn (Palmer) Harris.
Dr. Harris was a retired Dentist and Implantologist having practiced in Fayetteville, AR and Overland Park, KS. Dr. Harris and his colleague and friend Daniel Root, Overland Park, KS were credited with the development of the Subperiosteal Impant and have published several articles on the Subperiosteal and on various other types of implants. He practiced until 1993 and was a life member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and the American Board of Oral Implantology. The Academy honored him in 1996, by electing him “Honored Fellow” in recognition of his participation in and contribution to the field of implant dentistry.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, stepfather Roy Thorton, Stillwell, OK.
He is survived by his twin brother Dr. Floyd R. Harris of Fayetteville, AR, stepmother Gladys Thorton of Stillwell, OK, Janice Harris of Fayetteville, AR and their four children Stephen Harris, Mary Harris, Jana-Wrenay Heck and Nathan Harris all of Fayetteville, AR, Janette Harris and their sons Brian Byrd of Spokane, WA and Spencer Harris of Fayetteville, AR. He was the proud “Papa” of twelve grandchildren.
Dr. Harris loved his family, paint horses, horse racing, aviation, and the Arkansas Razorbacks. He will be missed.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 8th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday October 9th in the Chapel of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home with Chaplain Paul Woodhouse officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
