He was such a great kid. One of my favorite memories of him goes back to when he was in third grade. I was trying to help him with his multiplication, and he was completely over it. So I came up with a plan — I made flash cards, and every time he got an answer right, he got to use his BB gun and do target practice on the card. It turned learning into a game, and it’s a moment that has always stayed with me.
I still have the wooden box he made for me all those years ago. Today, the boys use it to hold their bullets, shells, and the little odds and ends that come with hunting. The top has a big crack in it now, but they don’t mind at all. To Me - it’s still something special.
