Buster H. Unger's Obituary
Buster H. Unger, age 91, entered into eternal rest on Saturday morning June 8, 2013 at his daughter’s home in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was born April 6, 1922 in Odell, Arkansas to Charles Sharod and Lettie Mae Pitts Unger, the sixth of ten children. Buster grew up in Fayetteville and joined the United States Army in 1942. He served in World War II in foreign tours of service including the Battle of Normandy, Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of the Rhineland. He also served in campaigns in northern France and central Europe. He was awarded five Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged in 1945 with the rank of Corporal. After returning from war he began work for Briar Lumber Company and then Shipley Baking Company where he retired in 1987 after 34 years of service. Buster married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Bruce September 6, 1941 in Fayetteville. They were happily married for 59 years. Buster surrendered his life to the Lord at the age of 18 and attended Fayetteville First Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed teaching and reading God’s word; his Bible being his constant companion. His first love was God and second love his family. Buster was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ellen Bruce Unger in 2001, his parents, Charles and Lettie Unger, three sisters, Alice Hale Cummings, Bessie Logue and Aubrey McCord; four brothers, Lee Unger, Ray Unger, Denver Unger and Mack Unger. He leaves to mourn his passing and to celebrate his life a daughter, Melpha Unger Speak of Fayetteville; two sisters, Sarah Gage of Winslow; Nettie Courtney of Springdale; three grandchildren, Cecil Bruce Southern of Farmington; Jerald Southern and his wife Beverly of Prairie Grove; Lisa Southern Cooley and her husband Glen of Fayetteville; six great grandchildren, Krystina Southern Sallee and her husband Matthew; Tyler Southern, Trenton Southern, Tanner Southern, Anthony Travis Southern all of Prairie Grove and Colton Cooley of Fayetteville; a sister in law Pearl Bruce Parker of Fayetteville and many loving nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Buster will be remembered for his example of God’s love and for his love and devotion to his family. Visitation will be 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Tuesday June 11, 2013 at Moore’s Chapel. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday at Moore’s Chapel with burial to follow at Mount Comfort Cemetery in Fayetteville.
