Carl Ray Edwards' Obituary
Carl Ray Edwards, 65, of Fayetteville, AR formerly of Pangburn, AR died Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas, after a valiant fight against cancer.
Ray was born in Heber Springs, Arkansas, the son of Everett C. Edwards and Pauline Ghent Edwards. He spent his early childhood in Pangburn, lived in Wichita KS from 6th to 9th grade, and graduated from Pangburn High School. He attended Arkansas State College in Beebe from 1959 - 1961.
Ray worked in the Titan II Missile Silos in Arkansas White County in 1962 and 1963 until he was drafted into the army where he was stationed at Ford Wadsworth, Staten Island, New York, serving as a specialist 5th class in the Personnel Division of the 2nd Corps. Returning home he worked for Speery Rand Corporation in Searcy until February of 1967 when he went to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. as a clerk in the payroll office until August of 1972. From August of 1972 until his retirement he worked for the US House of Representatives, Office of Finance in the payroll office. He set up the accounting system for the House of Representatives and was In charge of the accounting department by 1979. At the time of his retirement on January 31, 1995, he was Deputy Chief of the Office of Finance.
He was preceded in death by his father, Everette Edwards, two brothers, Joe Carlton Edwards and Jimmy Don Edwards.
He is survived by his mother, Pauline Edwards of Pangburn, a brother, William Albert (Butch) Edwards of Pangburn, his wife Freda Coyner Edwards of Fayetteville, two sons Kevin Edwards of Little Rock (wife Susannah and children Henry and Frannie,) David Edwards of Huntingtown, MD.(wife Lauren). Others who know him as DAD include Boyd and Karen Whitlock, and Cheri Keas of Fayetteville, Grant and Charlotte Gregory of Richmond, VA, and Chris and Mandy Coyner of Bella Vista, AR. He is a loving grandfather to their 13 children.
Ray loved gardening, landscaping, architectural design, painting, drawing, and home design, interior designing, and floral arrangement. His home and gardens were wonderful. Anyone who knows Ray knows of his love for Alex his pet poodle of 17 years.
A visitation will be held Tuesday evening October 10th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday October 11th at the Christian Life Cathedral in Fayetteville. A 4:30 PM committal service will be held at Henderson Cemetery in Pangburn, AR.
Memorials may be to WRMC Hospice or cancer research.
