Carleton Roland Holt's Obituary
Carleton Roland Holt, age 77, of Fayetteville, AR, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2025. He was born June 1, 1947, in Sioux City, IA. He was the son of Archie Roland Holt and Opal Jenny Langley Holt who preceded him in death.
He graduated from the University of South Dakota with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Education in 1969 followed by a Master of Arts. He completed his CAS from Iowa State University and his Doctorate of Education from the University of South Dakota.
Dr. Holt began his professional career as a band director at Jefferson High School in Jefferson, SD, earning the position prior to graduating from college. He continued his career as the band director at the Battle Creek School District, in Battle Creek, IA. Carl began his administrative career as the Assistant Superintendent for the Webster City School District in Webster City, IA. He soon became Superintendent of Schools at Brandon Valley School District in Brandon, SD, and eventually the Superintendent at Dakota Valley School District in North Sioux City, SD. Carl was hired as the superintendent at the school district’s inception where he completed his first book. Carl and his family relocated to Fayetteville, AR, to commence his final career segment at the University of Arkansas, Professor of Education.
Carl’s favorite pastimes included music, G-Scale model trains, RC airplanes, playing sports, and attending events with friends, family, and especially his grandkids.
Carl was a dedicated member of the Northwest Arkansas Garden Railway Society, Phi Kappa Phi, and Tau Kappa Epsilon.
Carleton is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Judith Kay Johnson Holt; his sons, Austin Roland Holt (Danelle), Cody Roland Holt (Sydney), and his grandchildren, Declan Roland Holt and Danica Marie Holt.
The service will be held at Cross Church: Springdale 1709 Johnson Rd Springdale, AR May 3rd at 2:00 p.m.
