Carol Denise Burkett's Obituary
Carol Denise Burkett, age 60, passed away at her home in Fayetteville, Arkansas on October 29, 2022. She was born on November 7, 1961, in Odessa, Texas, to Albert Adams and Frances Adams. She is survived by her best friend and husband of 38 years, Wesley Lewis Burkett Jr., her father Albert Adams, her mother Frances Adams, her brothers Randy Adams and Keith Adams, and her two sons Trey Burkett and Kordell Burkett, and countless extended family.
Carol was born in Odessa, Texas and graduated from Odessa High School in 1980. As an avid lover of music, she was an all-state percussionist, played drums in the Temple Baptist Church band, and sang in the choir. She and her husband passed on their love of music to their sons.
In the early 1980s, she worked in underwriting insurance for SJA Brokerage in Odessa, Texas, where she met Wesley (Wes) Lewis Burkett Jr. They started dating in 1982 and got married on March 17, 1984 at Temple Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas. Carol worked for Medical Center Hospital in Odessa and had her first son, Wesley (Trey) Lewis Burkett III, on June 8, 1984.
In 1986 they moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas. On December 5, 1996, at Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas she had her second son, Kordell Gavan Burkett. She worked for Fayetteville Public Schools for 34 years, most recently as the Administrative Assistant for Food Service.
Carol was a member of Cross Church Fayetteville. Previously, she was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas and First Baptist Church of Farmington, Arkansas. During those years she and Wes sang together in the choir.
Carol's biggest love was her family, especially her "three boys" - Wes, Trey, and Kordell. She often spent late nights checking in with family all over the country, making sure we were all connected and loved. She also loved having adventures in nature. The family often camped and hiked together in their free time. As a musician, she enjoyed sharing her love of music with everyone. She also loved going to concerts all over the country and watching her sons perform music. As a lover of food and cooking, she always did her best to make sure nobody went hungry.
She will be deeply missed by the countless lives she touched in the communities of Northwest Arkansas and Southwest Texas.
Her celebration of life will be held at Cross Church in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Saturday November 12 at 2PM. Memorial services are being handled by Moore's Chapel of Fayetteville, AR. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America or the American Cancer Society.
