Charles Dwight Dodson's Obituary
Charles Dwight Dodson, M.D., age 81, died Monday, January 18, 2010. He was born in Wright City, Oklahoma the son of Charles Daniel and Thelma Evelyn Riggs Dodson.
He was a graduate of DeQueen High School and served in the US Navy before returning to Arkansas where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Arkansas Medical School in Little Rock in 1955. He practiced anesthesiology in Little Rock for one year before moving to Fayetteville in 1959 as the first board certified anesthesiologist in Northwest Arkansas. He was on the active staff of Washington Regional Medical Center for 36 years serving as Chief of the Anesthesia service for several terms as well as Chief of Staff for one term. He was a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology , International Anesthesia Research Society, and the American Board of Anesthesiology. He retired in 1994.
He was a member of Central United Methodist Church where he was active in the Asbury Sunday School Class. His life revolved around his family. They enjoyed camping all over the US and Canada, canoeing and hiking in NW Arkansas, and bareboat sailing in the Caribbean. After the children were grown, he traveled on many international trips with his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Diane McGhee, and a daughter, Nancy Lynn Peters.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years , Nancy Sue Allen Dodson, his sister, Charline Coulter of Little Rock, two daughters, Dana Dykman and husband, Tom, of Fayetteville and Lee Ann Dodson of Gainesville, Florida, two sons, Allen Dodson and wife, Denise, of Elkins and Charles D. Dodson, Jr. and wife, Leta, of Goshen, nine grandchildren, Hannah Dodson of Fayetteville, Erin Dykman of Austin, TX, Sarah Stacpoole of Gainesville, FL, Stefanie Peters of Sarasota, FL, Kimberly Cornett and husband, Nick, of Lewisville, Texas, Lauren Peters of Denton, Texas, Kendall Peters of Austin, Texas, Cody Dodson of Goshen and Daniel Stacpoole of Gainesville, FL, four step-grandchildren, Brandi Clevenger and Nathan Kelly of Fayetteville, Nathan Kuder of Salt Lake City, and Aaron Kuder of Fayetteville, four step-great grandchildren, and two nieces, Beth Lanagan of Little Rock and Margaret McGhee of New York NY.
Memorial services will be held 2;00 PM, Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Butterfield Trail Village Convocation Room with Reverend Don Carter officiating.
