Charles Harvey's Obituary
Our brother Charles,
Charles was born November 13, 1957, in Alhambra, California to Jeffie and Velma Harvey.
At the time he had one sibling, Danny, who was two years older.
A couple of years later dad moved the family to a little town by the name of Palacios in the state of Texas. I was born four years later.
A short two years later our sister Jean was born.
Charles who preferred to be called Charlie loved life, especially animals.
I have fond memories of Charlie and I going camping together; throughout our childhood we had many adventures. One time we snuck out to the dog pound at the edge of town and opened all the dog kennels to free the dogs.
We were able to escape by crawling on our bellies through a large overgrown field to avoid the police who showed up almost immediately and were distracted by all the dogs running amuck.
As Charlie grew, he would encounter challenges that would alter his course in life.
Not finishing school, he would end up in the Army. Entering as a somewhat rebellious young man he would come home physically built, so much that, when picking him up at the airport on his return from Germany, we almost didn’t recognize him. The Army had turned him into a man.
Charlie was compassionate about collecting and selling guns and knives, he spent most of his time dreaming of things he wanted someday, like a large piece of property with a cabin on it.
Charlie was full of dreams and schemes.
He dreamed of winning the lottery or getting a large payout from ideas he submitted to various companies. The only payout he ever received would be a thank you letter or a ball cap.
Charlie was a giver; he loved to bake cakes and buy little gifts for those in his life.
On many occasions he would share his dreams of how, when he struck it rich, he planned on paying off family debt and buying everyone a vehicle of their choice.
When it comes to debt, Charlie despised it! He would always try and pay those he owed off as quickly as possible.
Another quality about our brother was he hated being late to anything, he would always show up to work early and sit in his truck until it was time to start. He would do the same even when meeting somewhere for a meal.
Those of you who knew Charlie, knew he could be bull headed, when he thought he was right about something, even if he was wrong, he would stand his ground.
If it was something he didn’t want to talk about, especially, Religion and politics, he would let you know without hesitation.
Charlie loved his music! When listening to music he would close his eyes and it was as if he was in a different place. One of his other passions was a love for action movies, if he found a movie he liked, he would watch it several times and could almost quote every line.
Over the years I watched Charlie battled with his emotions and his pride.
On several occasions when I brought up the topic of his salvation, he would just tell me that he was good, not to worry.
Ill never forget one particular phone call from my brother, about a month ago, He asked me if he could have the elders of the church at Unity pray over him for healing.
On Sunday, July 30th of this year Charlie accompanied me to church. Pastor Zach wanted to meet with Charlie a few minutes before church started. After being prayed for privately and presented with a Bible in Pastor Zach’s office, we entered the sanctuary and sat down. after a song of praise, Pastor Zach announced to the congregation that Charlie had requested prayer and invited all who would, come and pray over him. After walking Charlie in his frail state to the front of the church a chair was provided for him to sit on while being prayed for.
I was overwhelmed when I looked around and realized the entire body of over 200 attending that morning had come forward to pray for my brother.
This was a life changing moment for Charlie!
He would later tell me that he loved and trusted Jesus as his Lord and Savior!
The word’s I heard Charlie speak filled my heart with Joy and Peace!
Having shared this brief summary of my brother’s life one thing I can say for sure is he impacted my life like no other! I loved this man and will never forget him!!!
Like a rock being cast into a body of water, it causes a ripple effect, Charlie’s life has had a ripple effect on everyone he ever met.
I want to thank you for being a part of who Charlie was!
LOVE YOU BROTHER!
A graveside service was held 10:00 am, Monday, August 28, 2023, at Baptist Ford Cemetery.
