Charles Richard (Dick) Maple, age 91, of Fayetteville passed away Friday June 18, 2021. He was born March 31, 1930, in San Gabriel, California to Joseph and Florence Maple. He is survived by his wife (Alexandria Saha Maple). Dick Read Obituary

You and Dick were my first (and probably only) kindred spirits in NWA. So many memories of those years. Treasured moments sitting in the gazebo, watching the lilies and lotuses grow, eating your food, and chatting about everything in the world.
Dick, you will be sorely missed. But bon voyage.

I met Dick after he married my sister Alex. I immediately liked him and grew to love him. Dick was a master storyteller, and generous to a fault. Over the years we had numerous adventures that I will never forget. Skiing in Colorado, driving from Denver to LA and listening to a football playoff game and yelling at the radio. Sailing to Catalina to go diving with Alex, and so many more. When I got married, Diane fell in love with Dick as well. After both Diane and my father passed Dick was a good surrogate, full of good advice and sprinkled with humor, and definitely took the place as grandfather to our daughter.

Dick and I flew at Kwajalein Island. In every group of Pilots there one that always stands out with their talent and their ability to make you feel welcome. Dick and I trained for six weeks as a crew for a new aircraft and it was one of my best experience to be the with Dick and our Captain. I only worked with Dick for six months but he influenced this young man and pilot for my entire life. I glad I knew him. Tailwinds for that last flight.
Late in life when I met him, Dick always smiled when we shook hands. I encouraged him to tell me accounts of his flying ventures, and he never disappointed me. He was captain and pilot who flew many important people around the world, assuming responsibilities for their safety while traveling. Dick also listened kindly to my own accounts of military service; our friendship was genuine and I will miss truly miss him. John Baldridge, MD
An incredible individual, friend, mentor, and neighbor. Mr. Maple will be missed. We are lucky to have had him and Alex in our lives for almost 20 years.
