Clara Ellen Meenen's Obituary
Clara Ellen Meenen, a resident of Butterfield Trail Village of Fayetteville.
Clara Ellen Meenen was born in Wichita, Kansas, January 26, 1920. She was the daughter of Laurence and Helen Brush, owners of a prominent dairy firm in Wichita, Kansas. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert.
She is survived by her husband, Henry, of Butterfield Trail Village in Fayetteville, Arkansas, two sons, Kent and his wife Janie, of Siloam Springs, and Dennis of Rogers; seven grandchildren, Andrew Meenen and his wife Amanda, of Kansas City, Kansas; Michael Meenen of San Diego, California; John Meenen and his wife, Kristy, of Bentonville; Kevin Meenen of Bentonville; Tyler Meenen of Siloam Springs; Daniel Stephen and his wife Catherine of Alpine, Utah; Alison Hammontree and husband Chad of Fayetteville; and three Great Grandchildren, Cecily Stephen, Grace Hammontree and Lauren Meenen.
Ellen moved to Fayetteville in 1949 when her husband, Henry, started employment with the University of Arkansas. She had a concern for the community and the needs of the people of the community in which she lived and soon became involved. She was asked to serve on the Board of Directors of Fayetteville City Hospital and served for 25 years, 15 as secretary. She also served on the Hospital Development Board and later a member of the Washington Regional Medical Foundation. She was a charter member of the City Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the "Attic" Committee where she worked as a volunteer until her death. She was a charter member of the Development Child Care Association. This association established the first Office of Economics Opportunity day care center in Fayetteville and organized and operated the Infant Development Center. This center is now operated by the University of Arkansas. Ellen has received many awards for her community service, including the 1997 Eagle Award presented by the Washington Regional Medical Foundation for "Outstanding Health Care Leadership". In 2004, the Rotary Club of Fayetteville presented her with the "Service Above Self Award".
Visitation will be from 5PM till 9PM, Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville Arkansas, with the family receiving friends from 5PM till 7PM.
A private interment will be in Rogers. Memorial services will be at the First Christian Church in Fayetteville, Arkansas at 2:00PM Thursday, July 6, 2006.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Health Care Center of Butterfield Trail Village, 1923 E. Joyce Blvd., Fayetteville, Arkansas 72703.
