Over 50 years ago Pidgie and I organized a weekend at a resort in Hot Springs, Arkansas and invited my brother Max Miller and his wife Helen, Jackie Shumate and his wife, Dickie Shumate and his wife, Pidgie and Lorretta Hiatt. We had a great time talking about our younger lives growing up in Charleston, Arkansas. Pidgie told the story about Peggy and I visiting in their home on Hiatt hill in Charleston. We had walked through the pasture to the barn and fence that I hit with Pidgie's sled when it had snow hard one year. On the way back to the house, Pidgie looked down at my shoes and said, "you cut your foot" I said no I didn't. Pidgie informed me that I had stepped in a cow patty, that's what he meant by cutting my foot. We had a great laugh about that at the time and every time we met again or talked on the phone Pidgie always reminded me of cutting my foot. Pidgie was a year and two days older than me and we sort of celebrated together. We played a lot of baseball and football on that open property next to the Hiatt family home where eventually Joe and Margie built a beautiful home. To this day I can remember Clyde Hiatt sitting on the front steps off their home surrounded by his sons along with Max and myself. Mrs Hiatt took the picture one Sunday after church. I also remember all those trips to the Ranch and riding on the hay wagon. Very fond memories of Pidgie and growing up together. Rest in peace Pidgie, you will never be forgotten.
