Curtis Truman Smith Sr.'s Obituary
Curtis Truman Smith, Sr., age 87, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born on June 28, 1933, in Madison County, Arkansas, to William Claude and Ada May (McCoy) Smith. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Margaret Smith; his son, Douglas Smith; and sister-in-law, Joy Smith.
Curtis served with the United States Navy in the Korean War on the USS Traethon. He raised his family in Tampa, Florida, where he was a businessman and started Gulfcoast Petroleum. He had his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying, as well as hunting and fishing. Curtis had a diverse career path and later found himself as a cattle and poultry farmer. Upon retirement, he returned home to Madison County, Arkansas.
He is survived by his son, Curtis Smith, Jr. and wife Kandace of Fayetteville, Arkansas; his daughter-in-law, Beth Smith of Hindsville; one sister, Doris Jean Rohwr and husband Eldon; five grandchildren, Rachel Purvis and husband Benjamin, Sarah Smith, Christopher Smith and wife Kristen, Meghan Clark and husband James, and Colby Smith; four great-grandchildren, Ella Smith, Jagger Smith, Susannah Purvis, and Brody Smith; one brother, Paul Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service will be held Fayetteville National Cemetery.
