At the young age of 15 (1979) my parents brought me to Northwest Arkansas. A year later I met Dan Dorman. I had a background in dairy cattle and relevant operations and needed a job, so Dan gave me a chance.
Over the following years I either helped Dan milk or went solo so he could have a Saturday/Sunday off, took care of the bottle calves and yearlings, helped Dan put up hay at the dairy or in Greenland, disc and plant haygrazer, irrigate during the summer, haul square bales of haygrazer that would rival wire tied alfalfa bales, build fence, cut fire wood, and there were the two chicken houses. Dan always had something to keep a body busy with work.
When Teresa and I had children and were building fence, our children asked questions as to the building technique. All I told them for years is that I attended the Dan Dorman School of Fencing. Which I did. A perfectly level, functional, attractive, long lasting fence. Not a school I know of teaches that skill.
Throughout those several years we worked together, Dan was always the optimist, kind in word and gesture. Belief in his creator, purpose in life, and the value of others.
At age 57, I share this simple expression inspired by my Wife of 36 years, Dan, and several other great people in my life - You May Never Know The Impact You Make In Someone's Life -
Be Kind Every Day, Love Your Creator and Your Family, Empathy and Forgiveness Brings People Closer.
Dan was certainly one of the influential people in my life, even though it was for a short period decades ago, my memories of those times I still share with family and friends as a cherished experience.
Debbie, some of my first memories in Arkansas are directly tied to the man Dan Dorman and his Family, You included. Our prayers are for You and Your Family.
