Darla had many dear friends in Fayetteville over several decades;  I was privileged to be welcomed by her as a "recent" friend, since moving here in 2006.   We bonded quickly and remained so throughout, through the deaths of our spouses, and as recently as a few weeks ago on a drive to and from Chabad.  We served together for many years on the Board of Temple Shalom and on the Finance Committee, with a great deal of mutual respect and appreciation.  She was an eclectic and independent spirit;  among many other combinations of traits, I think she would enjoy being referred to as a fiscally conservative old hippie.  Of course, there was much more to her, especially love of family, community, and Judaism.   I will miss her.
