David had as fine a hand with the English language as anyone I ever worked with in my newspaper career. He was unfailingly cheerful and good-natured to everyone with whom he came in contact, and I always admired his ability to find something good to say about everyone.
I still laugh about David's comment, reported back to me not long after I went to the BCDR as managing editor, after I'd volunteered to cover a high school football game. I came in Saturday morning, wrote my story, and left it for him. He read it and commented to the news editor, "You know, Kay wrote a really good story on the football game, and you can't even tell a woman wrote it!" I will always treasure that.
I will also always treasure the first-place award he won for Best Sports Headline: "New Orleans Saints Ain't 'Ain'ts' No Mora!" after New Orleans finally won a game after a LONG losing streak.
So many good times. So many good memories. Thank you, David, for being you.
