David A Smith's Obituary
David A. Smith, age 57, of Greenland passed away Saturday January 22, 2022. He was born September 30, 1964 in El Dorado, Arkansas to Dewel and Freda Lorton Smith. He was an active member of GateWay Church in Greenland, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenny Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Diane (Miller); his daughter, Charity Smith of Greenland; two sons, Alan Smith of Killeen, Texas and Karsten Smith of Greenland; one brother, Larry Smith and his wife Sue (Baker) of Prescott, Arkansas.
Many have said of David that he was the best man they ever knew. Having a servant’s heart, David would help people move, fix their house, give them a ride somewhere, cut firewood – many things. He would do most anything for anybody, even if he didn’t know them very well, because he loved people. He wanted people to see the love of Jesus and he just loved helping them. He taught himself how to do so many things, especially computer programming. He knew as much as someone with a college degree. He also learned to play the piano by teaching himself. David worked for Just-Us Printers in Springdale for 28 years. He was an invaluable asset to them. He was their IT person, but could run any of the machines, fix them, fill in for the foreman, estimate the cost of print jobs and do whatever was needed. David was a drummer and board member at GateWay Church. He also fixed things, filled in as a minister, and did so many “behind the scenes” acts of service for the building and the congregation. He loved the Lord and diligently taught his children the scriptures. He was all these things and more, and yet so humble. He left a big impression on so many, and he’ll be missed sorely.
Memorial service will be Saturday, January 29th at 10:00 at GateWay Church in Greenland. A meal will follow at the Greenland Community Center and all at the service are invited. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville.
