Dickie Meier's Obituary
Dickie Meier passed away on January 27th 2005 at his home in Springdale, Arkansas. Dick was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa on January 31, 1935.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Meier to whom he was married for 48 years, his son Richard Meier and Randy Meier, his wife Christine and grandchildren Scott Meier, Jason Meier, Lori Meier, Robert Meier, Ryan Meier and Jordan Meier.
His is also survived by his twin brother Jackie Meier, his brother Ray Meier and sisters Cheryl and Linda. Dick was preceded in death by his parents Wendell and Alice Meier and his oldest brother Bill Meier.
Dick joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 and he traveled throughout the South Pacific. He then joined the United States Coast Guard and retired after 21 years of service. He served in both the Korean and Viet Nam wars. He permanently moved his family to Springdale, Arkansas after moving them from coast to coast during his time in the service. Dick began a second career by joining the team at National Home Centers and retired for a second time after 20 years. Dick continued to work helping with numerous family businesses.
Dick lived to serve everyone around him, always there with a helping hand. He was an inspiration to all who have met him. He always carried a smile and a sparkle in his blue eyes. Dick was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren providing constant support and unconditional love. He was patient and persistent and to his friends Dickie was known for his positive attitude, friendship and his sense of humor. Saying the right thing to bring a smile at the time one was needed, even in the worst of times. He friends would always say "There is no one like Dickie Meier"
As Dick's children, we feel blessed to have known him as a parent and a friend. He paved the way for us in life and built a strong foundation for his family.
We will forever cherish the memory of Dickie Dean Meier. We will miss his wonderful sense of humor, his generous nature, his strength, his belief in the human spirit, and his support for his friends and family. We give all of our thanks to God for blessing us with Dick's presence.
Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family Sunday January 30, 2005, 3-6 p.m. at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home. Celebration services will be held in the Chapel of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home at 10:00 AM Monday, January 31, 2005, on which day, Dick would have reached his 70th birthday. Honorary Pallbearers are his grandsons Scott, Jason, Robert and Ryan Meier; Pallbearers Brother, Ray Meier, Brother Jack Meier, friends Donny Stone, Chewie Issac, Charles Bowen, Tom O'Neal and Robert Clements, David Stobaugh.
