Dixie Lee Green's Obituary
Dixie Lee Green, age 77, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 4th, 2026, while surrounded by her family at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville.
Dixie was born on June 9, 1948, and raised by adoptive parents in Farmington, Arkansas.
Our mother will be greatly missed by her daughters, her sons-in-law and seven grandchildren, her two dogs, Jack and Jill, and her home filled with bright and beautiful plants she so often grew from tiny starts and discarded clippings.
Also left behind by our mother is an entire family of foxes, a few chubby raccoons, and one rogue opossum who lives under her front hedge, all of whom she faithfully fed at bedtime each night.
Our mother was a gifted and self-taught seamstress, cake decorator, bread maker and cinnamon roll baker—and she could grow sunflowers almost as tall as our house.
Oh, how our mother greatly appreciated her local library! She taught us that our library card is like a passport to visit extraordinary places and a golden ticket to gain expert knowledge about any subject or interest.
Our mother also had a deep appreciation for storytelling, and among her favorite stories of all were Arkansas folklore. She told us these fascinating legends when we were young in ways that thrilled us, delighted us, scared us silly, and caused us to view everyday life as one grand adventure.
At small Baptist churches in the 1970s and early 1980s, our mother taught young girls who Jesus is, why He came, and how we are saved by faith in His finished work of redemption on Calvary’s cross. She taught us to love our Bibles and to not take them for granted.
For most of three decades, our mother owned and operated two thriving insurance agencies she established solely: The Insurance Place in Huntsville, Arkansas; and later, The Green Agency in Fort Smith and Greenwood, Arkansas.
Dixie is survived by three daughters: Bridgette Schader Vaughan (husband Jim) of Springdale, Arkansas; Tamera Melson Jones (husband Brad) of Bella Vista, Arkansas; Stephanie Melson Rowland (husband John) of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and cherished step-daughter, Shellie Melson Morrison (husband Joe) of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
We do hope that our mother’s passing might inspire others to consider doing some fragrant and lovely thing such as adopting a dog or cat, planting a little garden to share and enjoy, or gifting a Bible to BiblePrisonFellowship.org; Wycliffe Bible Translation at Wycliff.org; or perhaps donating to CelebrateRecovery.com.
Dixie’s service, officiated by Pastor Robert Ward, is set to take place at Son’s Chapel located at 5480 E. Mission Boulevard in Fayetteville on Thursday, April 9, at 2:00, directly followed by internment at Fairview Memorial Gardens, located at 1728 East Mission Boulevard in Fayetteville.
