Emory Paul Hemphill
Just found out about death of my dorm advisor at Vanderbilt University, back in 1967-68 when giant lizards walked the earth. I have nothing but the fondest memories of Fred. He was very helpful with encouragement & support, when I was a lost puppy, 1,200 miles away from home. Very lonely. He was a law student & I was an undergraduate at the time. He played football at Trinity University (San Antonio) with a Brownsville, Texas class mate, Scott Etchison. What a small world; Fred was only 2 years older, but much wiser than his age. He drove his Volkswagen bug to Nashville & I borrowed it to go on dates with my eventual wife. That auto could turn on a dime & easily ride thru ice & snow. He was the first one to tell me Elaine looked like Liza Minelli (without the big nose). Don't tell anyone, but he forced me to go to Shakey's Pizza Parlor for my first beer when I turned 21. RIP Fred & ROMANS 14:7-9 to everyone.
