Donald DeMers Smith's Obituary
Donald DeMers Smith, 87, of Fayetteville, Arkansas passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 24, 2010 in Springdale, Arkansas.
He was born February 8, 1923 in Menands, NY to Arthur and Lelia (DeMers) Smith. He was a retired Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Verson All-Steel Press and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Prior to working at Verson, he was employed at Dun & Bradstreet. He was also a Member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
He and his wife Shirley married in 1945 and spent 54 happy years together in Peoria, IL, Dallas, TX, and Orland Park, IL. Donald was a lifelong choir member and spent many hours enjoying woodworking, stamp collecting, and reading. His favorite pastime, however, was spending time with his five grandsons, whom he adored.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Smith, one brother; Arthur Smith, and one sister, Lelia Williams.
He is survived by one daughter; Susie Baker and husband Terry of Fayetteville, AR, and one brother; Richard Smith of Simsbury, CT, one sister; Beverly Scott of Menands, NY and five grandsons; Brandon, Preston, Peyton, Cameron, and Carson Baker.
A memorial service and internment will be held at a later date in Chicago, IL at Church of St. John the Evangelist, Flossmoor, IL where he and his wife Shirley were very active members.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Homestyle Assisted Living in Springdale, AR for taking such good care of Don during the last year of his life.
