Donald "Don" Elwyn Peterson Jr.'s Obituary
Donald Elwyn (Don) Peterson, Jr., age 81, of Fayetteville, Arkansas passed away peacefully with his girls by his side on August 19, 2022 in Fayetteville. He was born in Mifflintown, Pennsylvania February 25, 1941. An only child, Don was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Elwyn and Mary Cornelius Peterson and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marilyn Kay Gooch Peterson; his only child, Kimberly Kay Jarboe (Jon) of Fayetteville; and two of the most amazing grandchildren, Jaden and Bode Weller both of Fayetteville.
Don graduated from East High in Wichita, Kansas in 1959 and attended the University of Wichita until joining the US Army stationed in Nuernberg, Germany. Don was a great salesman and never met a stranger. His entire career was spent with New Holland Farm Equipment which took him to Dallas, TX, Little Rock, AR, Minneapolis, MN, Enid and Tulsa, OK. After retirement to Fayetteville in 1999, you could find him five days a week at his newest “job” on the golf course at Springdale Country Club until health issues prevented play. Don enjoyed the many friendships he made there. He proudly served as a board member of the Arkansas Senior Golf Association.
Don became a true Razorback fan and was a member of the Razorback Foundation for over 35 years. He could yell at coaches and refs almost as loudly as he “Called the Hogs!” As much as he loved the Razorbacks, his favorite sport was anything that his grandchildren were playing.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, August 26, 2:00 pm at the Nelson-Berna Funeral Home Chapel, 4520 N Crossover Road, Fayetteville, AR. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice; but if it were up to Don, he would tell you to “hit ‘em straight” at your favorite golf course and think of him
