Donald Robert Heptig's Obituary
Donald Robert Heptig of Fayetteville, AR died peacefully in Fayetteville, Thursday July 27, 2006. Don was born in Flush, KS May 4, 1925. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Peggy Pauline (Simons) Heptig; also by two infant sons. Also preceded in death by his brother Earl and two sisters, Laurine Manthe and JoAnn Hunstman.
Don was a cattleman and owned Heptig Construction Co. in Topeka, KS. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Moose Club and Cattleman's Association of Topeka. Don served in WWII, Army Corporal of the Anti Aircraft division. Don was a member of the St. Joseph Parish in Tontitown, AR. While in Topeka he was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary.
He always enjoyed life and his determination and strong will helped him through many challenges. In Don?s illness, he showed great dignity and courage. Everyone around him learned from his strong character. A very opinionated man who will make heaven a fun place for all; he will be missed but the world has been left a better place because of him.
Survivors include his wife of ten years, Patsy Jean (Gainer) Heptig of Fayetteville. Sisters Lucille Guthrie of Topeka; Doris Gurss of El Paso, TX; Bonnie Marion of Corpus Christi, TX and brother Gene Heptig of Blue Springs, MO. He is survived by his five children: Sandra Ridenour (James) of Keller, TX, Daniel Heptig (Ann) of Lawrence, KS, Kim Smith (Paul) of Dalton, GA, Rodney Heptig (Barb) of Fort Worth, TX and Tammy Dumire (Ed) of Redmond, WA; three stepchildren: Renee Mahon of Fayetteville, Tony Kimball (Paula) of Spring Hill, TN and Jason Kimball (Shannon) of Atlanta, GA; eight grandchildren, six step grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Don loved his family, friends and the Lord. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
Rosary will be recited at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home in Topeka, Monday, July 31, 7:00 p.m. Celebration of his life will be held at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Tuesday, August 1, 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens in Topeka. A gathering of friends will be held at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville at a later date which will be announced.
