Donald Ray Smothers' Obituary
Donald Ray Smothers was born in Harrison, Arkansas on November 15, 1939. He went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 9, 2024, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's. Don lived an amazing life with his loving wife Peggy by his side. They recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Don has now joined his daughter, Tammy Mortensen and his parents Reverend Don Smothers and Reverend Ruth Kuykendall Smothers in Heaven.
Don is survived by his wife Peggy Newlin Smothers and his children. Kirk Smothers and wife Jeanine, Connie Burns and husband Mike, and Cindy Griffith and husband Mark, and also his son-in-law Phil Mortensen. He is also survived by his sisters Ava Walker and Joy Fulfer.
Don loved his family and being "Poppy" to his 11 grandchildren was one of the things he did best. His grandchildren are, Lindsey Pyatt (Nick), Melanie McDonald (Seth), Erin Neely (Cody), Lauren Hoerler (James), Matthew Smothers, Austin Griffith (Taylor), Mitchell Smothers (Lauren), Wade Burns, Taylor Griffith, Paige Wood (Hunter) and Carter Burns (Kristen). Don was equally delighted by his 10 great-grandchildren and extremely blessed to know them all.
Don spent his career as a rural electric associate. He began his career at Ozarks Electric Cooperative Corporation where he worked for 25 years. He completed his career as the President/CEO of Carroll Electric Cooperative Corporation. He was honored to lead and be part of the Carroll Electric team. He was known as a hardworking man of integrity.
Don graduated from West Fork High School and was a lifelong member of the Assemblies of God. Don served on numerous boards and was involved in many organizations.
He served God faithfully and has heard the words well done my good and faithful servant.
