Doris Fern Barbee's Obituary
In loving memory of Doris Fern Barbee, who peacefully departed this life on December 1, 2023, in Point Lookout, Missouri, at the age of 95. She has now reunited with her beloved husband, Shallie, and her departed sisters, Patsy Losson and Dixie Hammit, along with her parents, Guy and Alma Sanders.
Doris was born on March 7, 1928, in Arch, New Mexico. After graduating from Portales High School, she embarked on a journey to Clovis, New Mexico, where she began her career with Southwestern Bell. It was in Clovis that she met and married Shallie Barbee on June 23, 1951, sharing a bond that lasted a lifetime.
Doris's life was characterized by a deep passion for gardening, cooking, sewing, and reading. However, her true calling lay in using her gifts of hospitality and a servant's heart to minister to those around her. She loved her Lord and never missed an opportunity to share her unwavering faith in Christ and the promise of eternal life.
She is survived by her two brothers, Darryl and Derry Sanders, and her loving daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Joe Cross, and Sheila and John Sutton. Doris leaves behind a legacy as a cherished memaw and grandma to Deborah, Hannah, Nathaniel Sutton, Jordan (wife April Cross), Amanda Cross, and great-grandson Hudson Cross.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5, at Nelson Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville. A heartfelt funeral service will commence at 10:00 a.m. at the same location, followed by burial at 11:30 a.m. at Fayetteville National Cemetery. Doris Fern Barbee will be remembered for her kindness, faith, and the enduring love she shared with those fortunate enough to have known her.
